Walking alongside

Last night,

our Mission & Outreach volunteers had the privilege of stepping into St. Mary’s Hall to meet, talk with, and serve the gentlemen who find shelter and refuge there.
With meals generously provided by the Friendship Inn, snacks supplied through the kindness of donors, and winter gear lovingly gathered by our community, we were able to offer not just food or clothing—but presence.
We sat together.
We learned names.
We heard stories.
We shared laughter.
And at one point, we were privileged to be sung to - reminding us that there is so much talent, depth, and God-given dignity in every person we encounter.
But of everything exchanged tonight, the deepest gratitude we received was simply for listening.
It was not the items we brought, but the ear we offered.
Time, compassion, and the dignity of being seen and heard—these remain the most precious gifts we can give.
To the Salvation Army staff, thank you for welcoming us so warmly and for the tireless work you do every single night. You are a blessing to our community.
To the men we met this evening—thank you for your stories, your humour, your honesty, and the time you shared with us. It was an honour to sit beside you.
As we continue this ministry within our hall, we invite others to step forward.
If your heart is stirring… if you feel called to serve… know there is room for you here, email jnunes@rcdos.ca
A simple conversation can change a night.
Together, with Christ at the centre, we will continue to walk alongside our brothers with love, dignity, and hope.
